Statement from Dr. Maggie Carpenter
“I’m honored to receive this recognition. I trained as a doctor and have provided abortions throughout my career because they are needed. When access to abortion became nearly impossible in half of my country, I became an activist. My activism led to my co-founding the Abortion Coalition for Telemedicine – ACT – an innovation hub dedicated to advancing telemedicine abortion access so providers can safely and sustainably deliver care to patients nationwide.”
ACT envisions a future where abortion is safe and accessible to all who need it, and telemedicine abortion providers can serve patients across the country safely and without fear. ACT is working toward a time when everyone has equitable access to abortion care and the autonomy to make their own decisions about pregnancy—supported by accurate information, comprehensive options, and new frameworks that center reproductive freedom.
81% of people in the United States believe what a woman does with a pregnancy should be between her and her provider, not decided by politicians or judges. Until this freedom becomes a reality for everyone around the world, there is more work to be done.
